November 7, 2008. Consul General Jo Ellen Powell joined Vice-President Prof. Michael Schneider of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in opening the university's first night of new music focusing on modern music from North America. The extensive program by students, teachers and guest musicians offered something for every taste - from Gershwin to Cage, from jazz to classical music. The university symphony orchestra opened the evening with a performance of Gershwin's "An American in Paris". The highlight of the night was a performance of John Cages' "Winter Music", played on 18 pianos by 18 pianists on three floors of the university. The program selection is a testament to the diversity of modern American music.
