Iftar inspires love and laughter
September 14, 2009. To celebrate Ramadan, Deputy Principal Officer Doria Rosen hosted an Iftar for 40 women of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. The evening’s entertainment was opened with a poetry recitation presented by Shogufa Malekyar, both of her own work and that of Persian poet Rumi. Stand-up comedian Senay Duscu brought tears of laughter to the eyes of the women with her stellar performance poking fun of Turkish, German, Afghan and American lifestyles and common prejudices. After breaking the fast, the women enjoyed thoughtful poems about love and relationships written and presented by Nadia Qani. The evening was filled with excellent conversation, networking opportunities, and much laughter.
