Introducing Students Of Library Science To The American Way Of Managing Knowledge
December 11, 2007. Information Resource Officer (IRO) Sheila Weir, who manages the U.S. Information Resource Centers in Germany, Switzerland and the Baltics provided a uniquely American perspective on using librarian skills within the workplace to manage information and share knowledge. Speaking to some 20 students of Library Science at the Darmstadt University on December 11, Ms. Weir also addressed the usage of search appliances for internal information retrieval, which is a major focus of a work group at the university.
Afterwards, IRC Frankfurt staff introduced its products and services for library professionals and gave a brief overview of the development from Amerika Haus lending libraries to U.S. Consulate's Information Resource Centers.
The prospective information specialists obtained an increased understanding of the American model of knowledge management and information sharing that is incorporated in academic and private institutions. The American model is looked at as a premier model for access to information and understanding information.
