Consul General Powell speaks at Steuben-Schurz Society 60th Anniversary
September 23, 2008. Consul General Jo Ellen Powell delivered a Grußwort to an overflow crowd at the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Steuben-Schurz-Gesellschaft on the evening September 23. The celebration by the society dedicated to promoting German American friendship drew approximately 400 people, to the "emperors' hall" provided by the City of Frankfurt for the festivities. In addition to Consul General Powell, the society's president, Ingrid Gräfin zu Solms-Wildenfels and city treasurer Uwe Becker spoke, with Becker praising the transatlantic relationship. Former Minister of Education and Science Klaus von Dohnanyi was the featured speaker; he drew applause for his praise of the cultural contribution of American music, which included performances by a U.S. Air Force band.
