September 8, 2005. On September 8th, Amerika Haus Director Scott Rauland unveiled a wall painting funded by Amerika Haus at the former American-run Astrid Lindgren elementary school. The project followed-up on the June 2005 hip-hop project with Jugendring and 3 Jungfrauen Hip-Hop Netzwerk. Based on students’ suggestions the artwork by Helge 'Bomber' Steinmann centers around a hot-air balloon shaped like a globe, surrounded by flying characters from Lindgren’s stories. In appreciation the school donated a small tree to Amerika Haus decorated with wishes from German students to US students affected by Hurricane Katrina.
