Graphic Display of Transatlantic Ties
September 27, 2008. In the presence of U.S. artist and Jawlensky Prize winner Brice Marden, Hesse Minister President Roland Koch, and Consul General Jo Ellen Powell, Museum Wiesbaden opened two significant exhibits on September 27, 2008. The two exhibits, a retrospective of Brice Marden’s work over the last 40 years, and Lines, Grids, Stains, Words, drawings of Minimal Art from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, show the development of graphic art and emphasize the process of creating a piece of art, from an intimate sketch through the testing of diverse artistic techniques to the reduced statement of a painting. Minister President Koch highlighted the importance of arts and culture as a bridge between the U.S. and Germany, and of the transatlantic ties most evident in the Rhein-Main area, where 700 U.S. companies are headquartered, and 21,000 U.S. citizens are resident. Koch added that 350 planes departing Frankfurt airport every day for the United States, and noted that the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt was the largest consulate -- of any nation -- in the world. Consul General Powell in her welcoming remarks praised the Museum Wiesbaden for its national and international reputation and its tradition of showing outstanding American artists. The exhibits will be shown at Museum Wiesbaden until January 18.
