Hurricane Victims Continue Studies with Scholarships at Universities in Hesse
October 8, 2005. Wiesbaden / Frankfurt - Udo Corts, Hesse Minister for Science and the Arts, and Consul General Peter Bodde welcomed 14 students from Louisiana at Frankfurt airport on October 8. Upon invitation from the universities in Hesse these students continue their studies for a year after their academic opportunities had been impaired in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Minister Corts took the initiative for this project, unique in Germany: " The German-American friendship should not only prove itself in speeches but also in everyday life and above all in cases of emergency. Hesse wants to contribute to that," Corts said. Consul General Bodde welcomed the students as Ambassadors of their country and said: "This is a wonderful example for the unique partnership between Germany and the United States."
