| Dr. Matthias Dembinski and Alexander Lennon (r) |
Washington Quarterly Chief Editor at PRIF
September 10, 2008. Washington Quarterly chief editor Alexander Lennon and 20 senior and junior researchers of the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) discussed a wide spectrum of foreign policy issues ranging from the Georgia conflict to the basic principles of international cooperation. Lennon emphasized that the dividing line in the debate about the future of democracy promotion was not between but within the Republican and Democratic Parties. He criticized that the discussions of the future of international cooperation were narrowly limited to the issue of membership in organizations like the U.N., WTO, EU and NATO. The real issue, he said, was the fact that the traditional principles of international relations, like national sovereignty, free trade and the free market system, had eroded.
