Deputy Chief of Mission Koenig Discusses Role and Responsibility of Diplomats
October 7, 2008. In lecture organized by U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt and the “Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft Frankfurt am Main”,  Deputy Chief of Mission John M. Koenig discussed “Diplomacy and Responsibility” with 50 invited guests, among them business leaders, politicians, representatives of state governments, and journalists. In his lecture the he commented on how diplomacy today is reacting to new international challenges not faced before and explained the principles of transformational diplomacy. The ensuing lively discussion focused on the conflict between Georgia and Russia, the U.S. elections and their effects on U.S. foreign policy, and the differences between the German Foreign Service and the U.S. Foreign Service. The audience of regional opinion-makers very much appreciated the first-hand insights into the workings of U.S. diplomacy.
