December 14, 2004. The U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt donated a collection of books for children about American History, US culture and values to the kindergarten of the European Central Bank (ECB). The collection contains 85 titles on sports, music, art/literature, women’s and African American history as well as biographies of distinguished Americans, and will help the children to get to know the United States of America, its people and institutions in a playful way. The books represent the foundation of the international library at the kindergarten and will be used in connection with a new English language program that will start in 2005 in cooperation with the Berlitz language school Frankfurt.

Representatives of the ECB kindergarten had learned about the collection that was put together by the state department at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October where the U.S. Consulate General displayed the books at its booth. Two months later, Ms. Barbara Bernhardt of European Central Bank, Ms. Angelika Cron, director of the kindergarten, her colleague Ms. Stefanie Weber, as well as two representatives of the kindergarten’s parents’ association celebrated the arrival of the books at the library. They welcomed this new opportunity for their children to start building an understanding and openness for other cultures and languages from early childhood on.
