Chief Librarian Julia Arnold along with some twenty-five volunteers from many nations run the library with its huge collections of American books, videos, CDs, records, tapes, magazines and newspapers. Programs like "Educational Advising", "Storytime for Kids", "LitNight" or "Poetry Please", concerts and exhibitions guarantee joy and entertainment for all ages and cultures and make the library an attractive and exciting venue for intercultural encounters.
In her remarks, Ms. Weir also commended Dr. Karen Adams-Rischmann, chairwoman of the Friends Association, on her initiative and tireless efforts to turn this former U.S. army library into such a successful, integrated branch of the Karlsruhe public library system after the army left in 1994. Ms. Weir highlighted the U.S. Embassy's support for the American Library and the long-standing cooperation with Dr. Adams-Rischmann and Ms. Arnold.
