November 20, 2007. Consul General Jo Ellen Powell welcomed over 50 Alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program at her residence on November 20 for a delightful evening of networking, getting to know each other and refreshing memories about the experience of the Visitor program. Consul General Powell spoke about the broad range of programs offered to young professionals in government, politics, business, journalism, education, and the arts to visit the United States in order to consult with colleagues and observe the latest American developments in their areas of expertise.
Hesse Minister President Koch, himself an Alumni of the IVLP program, and guest of honor, shared anecdotes about his own program in the U.S. and spoke about how the experiences during his stay still play a role for his work today. He emphasized the importance of the program and that it shows the still continuing interest of the United States in Germany, and also the interest of the German participants to talk and promote Germany in the United States during their visits.
