Deputy Principal Officer Richard Aker

Richard Aker became Deputy Principal Officer in Frankfurt on March 6, 2006, coming from the U.S. Embassy in Berlin where he had been Cultural Attaché since 2003. Before that Richard served in Geneva, Switzerland, where he won a Superior Honor Award for his work at the U.S. Mission to the World Trade Organization from 2000 to 2003.

His previous Foreign Service experience included three tours in Germany (in Munich, Stuttgart and Bonn). He has also served in Romania and South Africa. Richard is a member of the Senior Foreign Service, rank of Counselor. He speaks fluent French and German.

In Washington, Richard was Deputy (later Acting) Policy Officer for European Affairs at the United States Information Agency in the early 1990’s.

Richard, a resident of California, is married to the former Andrea Platten of Tübingen, Germany. They have one child.
