November 19, 2007. Over 30 students and their teachers of Anna-Schmidt-Schule in Frankfurt had a dialogue with Consul General Jo Ellen Powell, and Consulate intern Joshua Kennedy on the nature of American individualism and how it affects current American culture and politics. In the discussion, the students asked questions about a unique American culture based on a philosophical school, where the next American frontier lies and the role of diplomacy in the contemporary world.
Additionally, the Consul General spoke about the importance of education in shaping the future as well as the role that the current generation of high school students will play in furthering intercultural dialogue. Jo Ellen Powell also stressed the need for individuals to take responsibility for each and every action, emphasizing that everybody can make a difference and that local events can have a global impact.
Throughout the discussion, the students posed a number of critical political questions in a polite and respectful manner, which the Consul General responded to in an honest and personal manner.
