October 11, 2005. Over 300 guests attended the opening of the exhibit 'Eric Carle: Syracuse N.Y. - Stuttgart - New York' at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek in Stuttgart. The author of 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and more than 70 other picture books that have sold over 65 million copies of his books worldwide was present at the opening. He told an enthusiastic crowd anecdotes about his family being a great inspiration for his picture books. The speakers, among them Konsul Scott Rauland, emphazised the strong relationship between Baden-Württemberg and the US and the need to continue and intensify person-to-person relationships.
They thanked Eric Carle for building strong bridges between the two countries. Staatssekretär Böhmler handed over the Stauffer Medal, the highest award of the State of Baden-Württemberg to Eric Carle. The duo Gregor and Veit Hübner played in a premiere the musical version of 'I sing a song - Ich habe die Geige klingen hören' by Eric Carle. The exhibit will be shown through Devember 30 and Württembergische Landesbibliothek in Stuttgart.
