Doing Business with and in the United States

The United States continues to be Germany's most important trade partner outside the EU and the prime destination for direct investment. Nevertheless, German companies in the U.S. still face legal and tax-related difficulties that hinder their activities and distribution of products in the country.

A careful preparation of starting a business in the U.S. is essential and will determine the success on the U.S. market.The U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt, in cooperation with German and American experts, offers regular information sessions that provide practical advice for starting a business in the U.S. as well as give an overview of U.S. management culture.At the end of June (specific date will be announced here), Hans U. Schetelig will participate in a webchat answering your questions. He has been working for U.S. companies and institutions for over 40 years, eight of which for the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany and 30 years for economic development in the state of Virginia. A specialist from the consulate's visa section will also be present to give guidance and advice according to latest regulations.

He will cover the following areas:
