Dr. Christoph von Marschall, the U.S. correspondent of the Berlin-based daily newspaper Der Tagesspiegel gave a lecture on “America Before the Elections – McCain, Obama and the Long Road to the White House” at Frankfurt University. Co-sponsored by the Hesse Center for Political Education, Frankfurt University’s Center for North American Studies and the publishing house Orell Füssli, the event drew over 200 guests. Von Marschall offered an in-depth analysis of how the parties’ national conventions, the vice-presidential nominations, the TV debates and the financial crisis had impacted on the dynamics of the campaign. He also explained how to read the various polling data putting them into the perspective of the electoral college system.
