Members of the Battery Dance company lead a dance workshop for Frankfurt youth |
July 3+4, 2007. Eight dancers of the well-known New York Battery Dance Company visited Paul Hindemith Schule and Otto-Hahn Schule in Frankfurt on July 3 and 4 and introduced their Dance in Schools program to over 300 Frankfurt students. The dancers presented their latest dance pieces such as "I'll take you there" and "Shell Games." They also taught workshops for a number of interested students. In the afternoon, a few dancers also taught workshops at Evangelischer Verein für Jugendsozialarbeit in Frankfurt am Main, Jugendhaus am Bügel, for a group of kids aged 6-18. The workshops were part of the current hip hop project the Consulate is organizing together with the City of Frankfurt, Frankfurter Jugendring, the Otto-Hahn Schule and the Jugendhaus am Bügel, and other Frankfurt institutions involved in youth outreach. Accommodation for the dancers was provided by Marriott Hotel Frankfurt.
Through the universal languages of dance and music, the dancers made Modern Dance accessible and built communicative bridges among students who represent diverse populations, immigrant and native, high-performing and educationally-challenged, Christian and Muslim. Likewise, the American dancers crossed bridges in mentoring their youthful German charges.
