September 16, 2009. Ambassador Murphy greeted staff of the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt in a Town Hall meeting on his first official trip to Frankfurt, the city he lived in while working for Goldman Sachs the 1990s. He emphasized how delighted he was to be back in Germany and particularly in his former hometown. Frankfurt hosts the largest U.S. Consulate in the world and over 30 government agencies are represented with offices. Ambassador Murphy laid out his major goals for continuing and strengthening the German-American relations focusing especially on the young German generation born after the fall of the Wall and taking advantage of the popularity of President Obama in Germany.
