Public Affairs Officer Jeffrey Hill joined a lecture on “Gay Rights Movement in the United States” by Prof. Dr. Michael Dreyer, University Jena, at the Saarbrücken chapter of the LSVD (Lesbian Gay Association Germany.) Co-organized by the German American Institute in Saarbrücken and the Landeszentrale for Politische Bildung, the event concentrated on gay rights legislation of the past three U.S. administrations and put it in international context. PAO Hill then briefed the audience about current efforts of the U.S. government to address LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) rights and highlighted Secretary Clinton’s speech on the occasion of Human Rights Day in December 2011 that focused on LGBT issues. Before the program, the organizers played Ambassador Murphy’s video message for their annual LSVD conference earlier this year. A lively discussion on the gay rights movement in the U.S. and Germany concluded the evening.
