Transatlantic Exchange of Lyrics and Dialogue
June 3, 2009. The June 3 opening of the 2009 Frankfurter Lyriktage at the Instituto Cervantes featured poetic talent from all over the world. This year, the festival, supported by the U.S. Consulate Frankfurt, explored nature as artistic inspiration, from classical and romantic poetry to the artists of the present. At the festival, Ann Lauterbach, a renown poet and German poet and Matthias Göritz shared their poetry and extended the conversation to include Lauterbach’s fascination with “fragments,” the role of music in her poetry and the impact of September 11th on her work. Matthias Göritz provided a German translation of Ms. Lauterbach’s poems. Other poets featured at the festival included Juan Gelman (Mexico City), Harald Hartung (Berlin), Valerio Magrelli (Cassino), Paola Barbon (Bochum), Jean Daive (Marseille) and Silke Scheuermann (Frankfurt). The Frankfurter Lyriktage continue until June 6, 2009.
