The Stonewall Uprising - Another Great Chapter in the Story of Human Rights
February 14, 2013
In order to promote U.S. Government policy on Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rights and its history, the consulate in Frankfurt teamed up with the James F. Byrnes Institute in Stuttgart for a screening of the PBS documentary about "The Stonewall Uprising" in New York in 1969. Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Jeffrey Hill introduced the film and gave a brief overview of the gay rights movement in the U.S. and emphasized the importance of this topic for the U.S. government as part of our human rights agenda. After the screening, PAO Hill led a discussion on how Germany and the United States could work together to advance LGBT rights with the some 30 attendees, many of whom turned out to be representatives of local LGBT groups and expressed interest in future joint programs.
