Youth Engagement in Heidelberg
January 30, 2013
Consul General Kevin Milas and his wife Eileen, a teacher, spent an afternoon at the German American Institute (GAI) in Heidelberg to discuss how the consulate could support the GAI’s youth engagement programs. They agreed with GAI Director Jakob Köllhofer on the importance of involving children early on to instill our common values in them and build on this foundation later on. Consul General and Mrs. Milas also joined the GAI’s “Story Time for Kids” program that focused on the importance of “sharing” that day. Reading from “Should I Share My Ice-Cream?” to some 20 children was not only major fun for all sides involved but also a first step in engaging the future generation in the shared values and goals discussion of our transatlantic partnership in a playful way.
